Himpunan Gerakan Islam Malaysia (HIKAM) expresses its deep concern over the escalating tensions and military incidents taking place between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
These developments risk triggering a broader conflict that claims more lives, particularly innocent civilians.
As two Muslim-majority nations bound by an extensive shared history, cultural ties, and the kinship of common faith, this bloodshed between them is deeply regrettable.
Armed conflict not only undermines regional stability and security; it also opens the door to geopolitical uncertainty that may be exploited by external vested interests. At a time when the Muslim world faces numerous challenges, internal divisions will only weaken the strength and solidarity of the ummah.
Allah SWT says:
“And if two groups of believers fight each other, then make peace between them…” (Surah al-Hujurat: 9)
This verse clearly establishes that reconciling disputing parties is a responsibility that must be given utmost priority.
Accordingly, HIKAM calls upon the leadership of both countries to:
1. Declare an immediate ceasefire to halt all military operations.
2. Fully initiate diplomatic channels to resolve issues through negotiation and dialogue.
3. Establish a joint mechanism to address border security issues prudently and in stages.
4. Guarantee protection for civilian communities and ensure that humanitarian aid can be delivered without hindrance.
HIKAM also urges influential Muslim countries and regional bodies to play their roles as facilitators of peace in ensuring the cessation of this conflict. Peace is not a sign of weakness, but rather reflects mature leadership and a prioritisation of the people’s well-being.
We further call upon Muslims around the world to continue praying for peace, to reject all forms of provocation, and to refrain from spreading information that could further aggravate the situation.
Peace is indeed the foundation of stability and prosperity. HIKAM believes that with wisdom, patience, and sincere political commitment, this conflict can be resolved with dignity and without prolonged bloodshed.
